Syndecrete Care & Maintenance

Syndecrete® is a handmade, natural material. Variations in color, texture, porosity and dimensions are inherent, valued qualities and slight, non-structural hairline cracks may result from normal shrinkage. Like all concrete materials, newly fabricated Syndecrete® products are subject to efflorescence, a natural leeching of minerals which may result in a thin deposit of salts on the surface.

Expect Syndecrete® to get better with time, to show wear and age beautifully. Use common, normal care with respect to long term exposure to water, oil and food. Wipe up spills as soon as possible. Clean with warm water and a mild non-ammoniated cleanser. Use a coarse brush with a solution of water and scouring powder to periodically remove possible accumulation in the porosity. Remove efflorescence promptly by washing the surface with a 50/50 vinegar and water solution. Wax periodically using Syndecrete WaxTM (available at Syndesis) to maintain a protected surface. Don't place hot objects on the surface. Although Syndecrete does not burn or melt, slight discoloration could occur on the wax surface. Don't cut into the surface with a knife or other sharp utensils, or use masking tape or other adhesive tapes on surfaces as residue can cause discoloration of the wax surface. As a solid surfacing material, chips or scratches can be sanded out and resealed by a Syndecrete professional.
